What is it?

A celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the publication of
The Weirdstone of Brisingamen.

Why ?

The Weirdstone of Brisingamen has never been out of print since its publication on 10th October 1960. It has become a modern classic, highly rated by critics and read by generations of children. Many of the adults involved in the culture of Britain have been deeply influenced by the work of Alan Garner. And it all started with The Weirdstone of Brisingamen.

If you would like to add your thoughts about the story and its effect on your life please do so on our comments page.

When and where?

The celebration will start in the spring of 2010 with special events in Oxford, Chester and Nantwich.

The climax will be a weekend festival on the 8th, 9th and into the 10th October, above and below ground, indoors and out, on Alderley Edge in Cheshire.

What's happening?

There will be displays, readings, lectures, signings, trips underground, guided walks, a medieval fair and commemorative ceramics and badges.
